Maritime Museum Restores Lens

Sturgeon Bay’s Door County Maritime Museum recently restored the Fresnel lens. The light was originally installed in 1935 and formally housed in the Green Bay Entrance Lighthouse on permanent loan from the United State Lighthouse — it’s now shining a light on the museum’s campaign to build an 11-story tower on site.

The light, dating back to 1880, is now situated in the lower lobby of the museum as part of an informational display on the tower project. The lens will sit enclosed atop the tower when it’s completed. The tower expansion will serve as an observational platform for the community’s stunning harbor and as an additional space for state-of-the-art exhibits for all ages. The tower will also include an expanded lobby, museum store and an elevator ride to the 10th floor indoor observation deck, with a 360-degree view of Sturgeon Bay. For more information, visit
