Ex-Miami Dolphin Swam 9 Miles After Boating Accident

Rob Konrad swam like a dolphin last week. The former Miami Dolphins fullback overcame a harrowing boating accident after falling from his 36-foot boat during a solo fishing trip.

Konrad was about 9 miles off shore in the Atlantic Ocean, the U.S. Coast Guard says, when he fell from his boat, which had been operating on autopilot. He was reportedly in the water between 10 and 12 hours before he eventually made it to shore.

He was found on a beach by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and he was treated at a local hospital for hypothermia symptoms.

Konrad played for the Dolphins from 1999 to 2004, starting 57 games while playing 82 and was released from the team in March 2005.
