Attend A Hemingway-Themed Weekend at Walloon Lake

Before his Havana days, Ernest Hemingway spent much of his early life fishing and ambling through northern Michigan — specifically, Walloon Lake. On Friday, April 29, 2016, Hemingway fans have the chance to gather at Walloon Lake for a three-day Hemingway-inspired event, including a meet-n-greet with Valerie Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway’s daughter-in-law and personal assistant. In addition to Hemingway-inspired drinks and snacks, John Cohassey, a Hemingway author, and Chris Struble, president of the Michigan Hemingway Society, will also be present at the meet-n-greet.

The event’s second day features a guided tour of Horton Bay and a boat tour of Walloon Lake, which will highlight a few of Hemingway’s favorite haunts. At Walloon Lake Inn that evening, guests can listen to stories of Hemingway from his personal assistant while enjoying a “Nick Adam’s” Feast. Sunday kicks off with another Hemingway-themed meal (the “Sun Also Rises” breakfast) and a fly fishing demonstration.
