| Tradition Home's Traditional Windows |
Just as an art restorer must take care to maintain the integrity of a master's painting, Tradition Home provides special services to ensure that each historic structure can be detailed appropriately. Mel Shakespeare created Tradition Windows, a division of Tradition Home, a quarter-century ago to specialize in wood windows - with modern window technology.
"We couldn't find the right window in the traditional style," he said. "They weren't as pretty. So we redesigned a traditional window with the features we wanted. They're compatible - they make the home a complete period piece. And every time I sold a home, they ordered windows."
Owners may remove both top and bottom sashes for cleaning, and they are able to remove and replace storms from the inside. Each edge is completely weatherstripped to eliminate drafts, and the storms incorporate air vents. The technology is hidden, leaving the focus on the pine trim and authentic wooden muntins.
Another company division is Tradition Interiors, which offers authentic period furnishings for homeowners. Shakespeare, a longtime collector, is often consulted to design and furnish period rooms with vintage Americana and Canadiana antiques, with a preference for early painted furnishings and accessories that create ambiance as well as reflect the homeowner's individual tastes. Accurate reproductions are also an option.
