Underwater Olympiad
Underwater World in China's Qingdao city staged an underwater Olympics to mark Chinese New Year. Sports, modified to be played underwater, including fencing, shooting, cycling and gymnastics took place.

"All the participants are professional divers," a spokesman for the aquarium told Ananova. "We want to promote Qingdao city as the host of the sailing events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics."

Qualified divers in the fencing portion of the "Olympics" fought while balanced on a steel wire. The first one to fall off of the wire was declared the loser. Balloons fastened to a board were targeted by shooters wielding specially made harpoon guns.

Other events, say organizers, will be much easier underwater. Gymnasts will have the feeling of weighing less and the rules will therefore be adjusted to take their new environment into account.
