| Drivable Ice House |
Engineer and fishing enthusiast Tom Lykken, co-owner of SnoBear Industries in West Fargo, North Dakota, was tired of the traditional hassles of ice fishing. Putting up his fishing house on the ice, chiseling a hole, hoping you found a good spot after all of your hard work.
Lykken did something about it. In his garage, he set about tinkering and built the world's first motorized fish house. The SnoBear, a fully equipped fishing house that can be driven onto the ice on tracks and skis, lowers itself with the flip of a switch. Built-in power drills can cut as many as six fishing holes into the lake's surface.
"Summer fishing went from rowboats to speedboats, and ice fishing has too," co-owner of SnoBear Industries Greg Hatten told Fortune Magazine. "We've created a wintertime boat."
Customizable, too, the SnoBear, ranging in price from $33,000 to $50,000, can be equipped with satellite TV and GPS-enabled fish-tracking devices. There is also a built-in escape hatch - just in case.
