Traverse City Extends Public Beaches
Say goodbye to abandoned lakefront properties in the Traverse City, Michigan area, as the community of Acme is gradually transforming the coast back into a recreational and visual delight of parks, beaches and walking paths. The town has begun buying up old motels and business establishments and tearing them down for extended public shoreline.
Township officials already have demolished five motels, one large restaurant, acquired more than 6 acres of land, 1,300 feet of shoreline, and secured $6 million in state recreational funds and private donations to further their beachfront beautification efforts.
The new beach and park are already open for public use, but will continue expanding over time as new amenities are added.
