Mills Race Navigates Lake Erie
Back in 1907, Merrill B. Mills founded the inaugural Mills Race on Lake Erie, with only four sailors participating. More than 100 years later, the race is still a staple on Lake Erie, with close to 150 boats representing many Great Lakes yacht clubs each year.
On June 6, the 2014 Mills Trophy Race will be presented by the Toledo Yacht Club. The Mills Race continues to be one of the oldest and most prestigious competitive sailing events on the Great Lakes.
Originally designed as a test of navigational skills, the race starts near Toledo Harbor Light and sails to the finish line at Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island. The course also will take race participants near the Red Battle of Lake Erie Commemorative Buoy
