Door County Maritime Museum Hosts "Missions of the U.S. Coast Guard" Exhibit
Ice breaking, maritime law enforcement, homeland security and search and rescue — sounds like a HBO televisions series, but really it's the everyday responsibilities of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) featured in the "Missions of the U.S. Coast Guard" exhibit at the Door County Maritime Museum. From May 10 to October 26, this exhibit will focus on the many missions of the USCG featured in 15 original paintings from The Coast Guard Art Program, along with ship models and photographs.
The exhibition is one of many events celebrating Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin's designation as an official Coast Guard City, one of only 16 communities nationwide. Two of the paintings included in the exhibit are particularly important to the local community in Sturgeon Bay: the Cutter Mobile Bay (pictured above) and another showing cargo vessel inspections in a Sturgeon Bay shipyard.
